Close window I woke up one morning in Chicago and wrote this down. I then recorded it in a small cassette ecorder. I was anxious about an up-coming flight. I hadn?t flown in 4 years ? I?d given it up. It was September 8th, 2001 and the next morning I flew into New York City. I was scheduled to fly out 9-11. Coyote?s Dream (Tim Grimm) Last night I had a dream- it started with a coyote?s scream Maybe you?ve heard a coyote?s cry- sounds just like a baby?s gonna die Out of these hills there rolled a mist- a fog so thick you could drown in it Around the world, all the lights went out- like something in the Bible was going down Nothin? would work if you plugged it in- nothin? would start or drive again Nothin? would shoot, nothin? would fly- all the little screens went dead inside But the sun still shone and the wind still blew Nothin? had changed between me and you Men in business suits who had never prayed- cursed the Lord and spoke his name in vain All day long you could hear their screams- thinkin? they were livin? in a devil?s dream I?ll tell you what God had done- he?d leveled the field for everyone He?d gotten tired of the few runnin? the game- left the rich and poor all the same He?d gotten tired of the killin?- tired of the waste- tired of the smoke blown in his face Tired of the children eating alone- tired of the nurserys and the old folks homes But the sun still shone and the wind still blew Nothin? had changed between me and you The grass grew long, the clouds rolled in- life in the meadows got wild again Water in the streams got clear to drink- with nothin? plugged in you had time to think Yeah, time to think, time to sigh- time to kiss your babes goodnight Time to sit on the old porchswing and look out on the world as a holy thing Last night I had a dream- it started with a coyote?s scream He was over the hill, maybe a mile- I opened my eyes and began to smile But the sun still shone and the wind still blew Nothin? had changed between me and you © 2001 Steel Cabinet Publishing BMI Close window
