Bob Martin Bob Martin Best Brown Suit Words and Music by Bob Martin, ASCAP © Copyright Bob Martin, 2000 I’ve got the sheriff at the backdoor, got the landlord yellin’ up the stairs, Cruiser flashin’ blue lights; there’s bullets in the air. And all along the moonlit boulevard there’s bandits everywhere, And the night is young. I do believe it’s time to make a run. We had a place livin’ over the café in a second story flat. Most of the time I was down stairs and she'd had enough of that. So when the fight broke out over money And livin’ beyond our means, We had rats as big as bulldogs Gettin’ in through a hole in the screen. So I put down a buck and a quarter. They wanted twelve but I got it for nine. All it cost me was short money. One more payment and it’s mine. And although it’s got some mileage, it runs good half the time. And that’s all I need. With a tune up I’ll be ready when it’s time to leave. And I’m double-parked on a side street. Gonna get a shine on my shoes. I’ve got a suitcase tied with a piece of rope, And I’m wearin’ my best brown suit. Gonna make a break for the highway. Plan A has fallen through, But ya know that I’ll be commin’ to get ya. I’m not leavin’ here without you. We could make a getaway in the full moon light. Pack up one bag a piece. We could be there by tonight. And although the joys and sorrows don't add up to make it right, Just let it go. We'll be far away by tommorrow.
