"Vanessa"
(Macey, Beatty, Dougherty)

A friend who, like myself, suffers occasionally from depression. We all think about killing ourselves at some time or another. I wrote this song for Vanessa at a low point in my own life while staring out my kitchen window on a dreary, gray, rainy day. We both survived. A blues wake-up call.

When the rain keeps on fallin', And you feel like bawlin'
And you're danglin' by a thread
If for cryin' out loud, You got a black cloud
Hangin' over your head
Don't waste your time, Starin' at the ceilin'
Wishin' you was dead,
It'll never, Get no better
Till you drag your ass out of bed
Please Vanessa, Don't let it depress ya
God knows what life's all about
Vanessa...Vanessa
Please don't take the easy way out
Don't take the easy way out
We all got lots of problems, Tons of bills, Heaps of pain
Everybody's goin' crazy, Or at least gone half insane
We all got to learn the hard way
How to turn off our hearts and our brains
Vanessa...Vanessa
Please don't throw it all down the drain
Don't throw it all down the drain
When the walls're closin' in, And you can't stand your skin
And you're too scared to walk out your door
When you can't stop the tears, Can't look in the mirror
And feel like you can't take no more
Don't waste your time, Starin' at the ceilin'
Wishin' you was dead
It'll never, Get no better
Till you drag your ass out of bed
Please Vanessa, Don't let it depress ya
God knows what life's all about
Vanessa...Vanessa
Please don't take the easy way out
Please don't take the easy way out
